History

Since 2010, Bedford has proudly partnered with the Canadian Institute of Mining for the CIM–Bedford Canadian Young Mining Leaders Awards. 

Purpose

The CIM–Bedford Canadian Young Mining Leaders Awards encourages and accelerates the development of leadership in Canadian mining by recognizing outstanding achievement and potential of young Canadian mining leaders.

Criteria

  1. Their performance in terms of executing and achieving goals and objectives.
  2. How they engage others at different levels of the organization to help them feel valued and respected members of the company.
  3. Their expertise in team-building and improving team performance.
  4. Their sensitivity to social responsibility.          

Other

Nominees must be either Canadian citizens or landed immigrants 39 years of age or younger working for any mining company, engineering/consulting firm, contractor or supplier in the industry anywhere in the world.

Recipients

There can be multiple recipients of this award every year. This award is solely for individual nominations (no teams).

Winners

2024

Jean-Simon Beaudry

Jean-Simon Beaudry started his career as an auditor at EY Montreal before joining Raglan Mine, now part of Glencore. He currently manages the finance function and is also involved in governmental affairs with a focus on climate change policies.  

Since 2022, he has been a board member and the treasurer of the Quebec Mining Association, roles in which he demonstrates dedication to promote the mining industry in Quebec and help its members reach the highest environmental, social and governance standards.   

He is also active in supporting the community by serving on the board of a non-profit organization with a focus on nature conservation and preserving access to forest trails. 

He graduated with a Bachelor of business administration and obtained a Specialized graduate diploma in accounting at HEC Montreal. He is a chartered public accountant (CPA).

2024

Keira Sawatzky

Keira Sawatzky is the lead technical manager of Peter Lucas Project Management and is a professional electrical engineer registered in the province of Saskatchewan. She started with Peter Lucas as a client-embedded project manager and now manages their largest client portfolio, providing support and leadership to employees and clients to ensure they have what they need to succeed. She has developed Peter Lucas’ internal mentorship program, with a focus on women in non-traditional roles, and provides formal mentorship through WiM/WIN-SK and the University of Saskatchewan College of Engineering. Keira excels at supporting others by developing relationships, applying her technical skill, and challenging the status quo.
