Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd., Canadian Malartic Mine
The Canadian Malartic Mine, owned by Agnico Eagle, stands as one of Canada’s largest open-pit gold mines, situated in Malartic, in the heart of Québec’s Abitibi Gold Belt.
Since 2011, it has produced over 7 million ounces of gold. With the addition of the Barnat pit in 2019, the Canadian Malartic mine is set to remain operational until 2029. As of 2023, more than 1,400 full-time workers are employed onsite.
2022
Atlantic Mining, Touquoy Mine
St Barbara’s Touquoy Gold Mine began commercial production on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore in the spring of 2018 after a one-year construction phase. At its peak, over 300 Nova Scotians were employed at the Touquoy mine with over 400,000 ounces of gold being produced since 2018. Extractive mining activities concluded in January 2023, but over 200 Nova Scotians continue to work to process existing ore stockpiles.
