The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation is developing B.C.’s Critical Minerals Strategy to support the transition to a cleaner economy. The Strategy is intended to guide the sustainable and inclusive development of all areas of BC's critical minerals value chain, including mineral exploration, mining, processing, manufacturing, recovery and recycling.
You and your networks are invited to actively participate in shaping the development of this Strategy. On October 6, 2023, the Province launched its Critical Minerals Strategy engagement webpage where the public, including Indigenous Peoples, may provide written feedback. The webpage has a discussion paper that includes information and questions on six key themes. The public engagement period is open until November 6, 2023.
The engagement webpage also has information on the ways that First Nations perspectives are being sought, including an invitation to government-to-government discussions. The first phase of the BC Critical Minerals Strategy is anticipated to be released in Quarter 1, 2024. The feedback you give will be used to develop a robust and inclusive Strategy that advances the critical minerals opportunity in BC for the benefit of everyone.
