The 2025 – 2028 CIM Strategic Plan is the result of months of reflection and stakeholder interviews. It embodies the experiences and insights of our volunteers, staff and the community we serve.
Together, we identified three priority initiatives:
Embrace innovation and excellence: Stand as the definitive leader in industry best practices, known for our technical expertise in mining, minerals and metals.
Forge connections and drive growth: Serve as the premier hub for networking, mentorship, and building strategic partnerships within the mining industry.
Support the value of the minerals and metals industry: Elevate the public’s understanding of, and appreciation for, the industry’s vital contributions to society.
The feedback we received while developing those priority initiatives led to clear objectives that will help us achieve our goals. This plan supports the transformation that our industry is undergoing while keeping our members as a central focus.
Among the immediate steps we have taken in enacting this strategy is the evolution of the Geological Society of CIM into the Mineral Resources, Mineral Reserves Society. This rebranded society brings focus to a key strength of the CIM community of expertise and more clearly expresses the unique value that our membership has been providing the industry for over a quarter century. We are also in the process of developing a new society dedicated to innovation and technology. It will focus on helping industry accelerate digitalization of mining as well as the broader development and application of technologies.
“Now more than ever, leadership within the minerals, metals and energy industries is critical. This strategic plan ensures that we are aligned on a common vision and positions us to meet future challenges together.”
Ian Pearce, CIM President
We have also been active in reviewing and updating our governance to ensure accountability and transparency in our operations. Among the results will be a streamlined and simplified committee structure, which ensures that we remain agile and responsive to the needs of our community.
To everyone who contributed to this Strategic Plan, we extend our deepest gratitude. This is truly a plan for the future that reaffirms our commitment and value to the minerals, metals and energy sectors, and we are excited about all that we can accomplish.
With the valuable support of our technical societies, local branches and dedicated volunteers, we look forward to building a stronger CIM that listens, learns, and leads.
