Excellence in Sustainable Development Award
Osisko Mining Corporation has continued its transformation from an exploration company to a mining development and operating company with the development of its 100 per cent-owned Canadian Malartic gold project in Quebec’s historic Abitibi mining camp. With current reserves of 9 million ounces, Canadian Malartic ranks as one of Canada’s single biggest gold reserves.
Esteemed by its peers, Osisko has developed a responsible approach to the development of the Canadian Malartic project. Since 2006, its methods have often been cited as a model to be followed. It has distinguished itself through a series of actions and measures in building the Canadian Malartic project, while seeking a fair balance of its economic, social and environmental considerations.
Early in the project life, Osisko’s contribution to enhancing the management of sustainable development began with a dialogue with the stakeholders. This dialogue continued throughout project development. This management model was a first in Quebec for a junior exploration company.
