Selwyn Blaylock Canadian Mining Excellence Award
(Biography from 2008) Prior to retiring in 2006, Paul Severin held the position of senior vice-president, exploration, Falconbridge Limited, which was integrated with Noranda Inc. in 2002.
A graduate of Laurentian University in Sudbury, Severin was employed by Falconbridge Limited and subsidiary companies for 36 years and gained a wide range of experience, from mine production geology to global exploration. During his career, he focused primarily on the discovery and delineation of nickel-copper-PGM deposits, volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits and porphyry copper-gold deposits.
Severin served as chairman of the CIM national committee that developed Estimation of Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves Best Practice Guidelines as a result of recommendations of the Mining Standards Task Force and on the Independent Advisory Committee to the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) regarding the preparation of the APGO business plan during 1999-2000.
He is a member of APGO, GAC, PDAC and CIM.
