In 2006, Robert Gibson was part of a committee which included Roy Slack, Peter Balen and Julie Gray to re-activate the CIM Northern Gateway Branch after years of inactivity.   

He has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the CIM goals as the Northern Gateway Branch Treasurer from 2006 to 2023 and his role as a branch executive member today.  As part of this active branch, he has been involved in many successful fund-raising and networking events and in several community initiatives to promote awareness of the essential contribution mining makes to society. 

His career started forty years ago as a CA CPA with Thorne Riddell (Predecessor to KPMG), including senior financial roles with operating mining companies Falconbridge and Dickenson Mines / Goldcorp, and with mining-exploration service companies Boart Longyear and Atlas Copco / Epiroc.  

In 2019, he was honoured with the Canadian Diamond Drilling Association Life Member Award in recognition of Distinguished Service.
